San Antonio Riverwalk Pics
Thinking about visiting the San Antonio? Taking a stroll down the San Antonio Riverwalk should be #1 on your list of things to do. Walking the Riverwalk has been my favorite city experience so far, because it doesn’t feel like you’re in the downtown of a large city. Instead, it feels like a you’re in a huge landscaped park with wide greenways and resort-like hotels and restaurants lining the way.
The San Antonio Riverwalk is a beautiful blend of city and nature. So it’s the perfect destination for city-lovers and nature-lovers alike.
What to Expect on the San Antonio Riverwalk
While the San Antonio Riverwalk actually extends about 15 miles down the San Antonio River, the famous downtown loop is a much more manageable length of 2.5 miles. This stretch of the Riverwalk, also known as the Paseo del Rio, is it’s own little world.
How? Well, it’s basically a level below downtown San Antonio. There are various access points where you can take stairs down from the street level, and descend to the San Antonio Riverwalk. Because the water is a level below the streets, you are removed from the busyness of the traffic, making the walk way more enjoyable.
Because the Riverwalk extends below the streets, you can take the Riverwalk almost anywhere downtown instead of driving or walking the sidewalks.
Along the way you will see beautiful landscaping, bridges spanning the waterway, restaurants with sprawling outdoor patios, balconied hotels, and more. You might see a few tour boats leisurely passing by, or catch some live music by the water.
The San Antonio Riverwalk pics below don’t do it justice.
Nearby Attractions
While the San Antonio Riverwalk is an attraction in itself, there are plenty of things to do nearby. Here are a few you might want to add to your list:
Rivercenter mall. The mall actually wraps around the end of a side waterway, so it’s cool to visit even if you don’t want to do any shopping.
La Villita Historic Village. As a center for arts and local crafts, the La Villita shops are a great stop along the Riverwalk.
Kallison Love Lock Bridge. While there are lots of bridges that span the river, this one contains an iconic lock fence. Bring a lock of your own, and toss the key into the San Antonio River below.
The Alamo. It’s completely free to visit this historical landmark, and it’s only a short walk from the Riverwalk. Just make sure you reserve tickets for a time slot to enter.
Tower of the Americas. At 750 feet, the Tower of the Americas stands out from the surrounding buildings in San Antonio. You can view the city from the observation deck, or dine in the revolving restaurant at the top.
Ditch the car and explore San Antonio by traveling the Riverwalk. You won’t regret it!
